  • Review Introduction draft and address challenges.

  • Evaluate content flow and logic, with collaborative editing.

  • Homework: Source newer references if necessary; review Step 2 of MDM; draft purpose and aims statement.

  • Finalize introduction, purpose, and aims.

  • Review content flow and logic.

  • Address challenges in Methods section.

  • Homework: Review Step 3 of MDM, draft the Methods section.

  • Discuss Methods draft and troubleshoot challenges.

  • Review content, subsections, and ensure adherence to journal guidelines.

  • Comparative analysis with similar published projects.

  • Homework: Complete the Methods section, review Step 4 of MDM, and draft the Results section.

  • Review Step 5 video of My DNP Manuscript.

  • Discuss the Discussion section; identify missing elements and required sources.

  • Ensure all limitations and implications for nursing are clearly addressed.

  • Perform a word count analysis; adjust content as needed.

  • Homework: Conduct a thorough review of the entire manuscript. Compare it against journal guidelines. Fine-tune editing and apply APA or AMA style where necessary. Identify and incorporate newer sources if required.

Focus: Taking a Break and Reflecting


  • Mentees are encouraged to step back from their paper and avoid direct work on it.

  • Mentors review one or more of their own manuscripts and discuss content, drawing comparisons to the PTP process.

  • Discussion on the publication process and how it aligns with the mentee’s broader career goals.

  • Homework: Read one or two journal articles of interest for personal enrichment.

Focus: Writing Intensive Session


  • Distribute weekly handout and provide Zoom link for a special 60-minute review of scholarly writing.

  • Hosted by professional editors Sara D. Hauber and Sharese T. Willis.

  • Comprehensive insights and Q&A on writing and editing strategies based on extensive experience.

  • Opportunity for mentees to ask specific questions related to their manuscripts.

Focus: Editing and Finalizing Draft


  • Review Step 6 of the My DNP Manuscript program.

  • Revisit the mentee’s draft, analyzing each section in context of the whole.

  • Compare content against the journal’s guidelines and MDM recommendations.

  • Ensure the paper aligns with the journal’s requirements.

  • Determine if any declarations, conflicts of interest, acknowledgments, or other requirements are needed for the journal.

  • Homework: Write the required abstract and create an account (if needed) for the journal’s online submission system.

Week 12

Focus: Editing and Finalizing Draft


  • Distribute weekly handout and provide any relevant Zoom links.

  • Review and finalize the abstract.

  • Check all guidance for submission requirements, forms, and necessary documents.

  • Address any last-minute questions or concerns.

  • Submit all documents for online manuscript submission.

  • Celebrate and share submission success on the YellowDig group!

  • Conduct a closing meeting/event to mark the conclusion of the mentorship program.
